Genesis GV90: Hyundai’s New Luxury Electric SUV Revealed, View Photos

Hyundai’s luxury marque Genesis has unveiled its newest flagship, a large all-electric SUV called the Genesis GV90. Designed to occupy the upper echelon of the brand’s portfolio, the three-row EV can accommodate up to seven occupants and introduces a fresh design philosophy that Genesis intends to carry into its next generation of vehicles.

The GV90 also broadens Genesis’ U.S. lineup to seven models as Hyundai continues to strengthen its premium presence in the American market. It is the biggest vehicle Genesis has produced since the marque entered the U.S. market roughly a decade ago.

The new electric SUV is expected to enter a fiercely contested segment populated by models such as the Cadillac Vistiq, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Rivian R1S.

“Today marks a landmark arrival for Genesis and for the future of luxury mobility,” Hyundai CEO José Muñoz said in a statement. “GV90 opens a new chapter for Genesis,” building on the company’s history of ambitious innovation, elevated customer experiences and an uncompromising focus on quality.

Genesis GV90 Brings a New Design Direction

The Genesis GV90 represents a significant expansion for the luxury automaker. As the company’s first full-size SUV, it sits above the brand’s existing utility vehicles and is positioned as a technological and design flagship.

The model will be manufactured at Hyundai’s new production facility in Ulsan, South Korea, before reaching American dealerships. Genesis expects the GV90 to go on sale in the U.S. early next year.

Pricing has not yet been announced. The company said details surrounding the vehicle’s MSRP will be revealed closer to its market launch. The GV90 will become the fourth Genesis EV sold in the United States.

Genesis has also not confirmed whether the GV90 could eventually be offered with a hybrid or internal-combustion powertrain. The automaker has continued to provide different propulsion choices across some of its other nameplates, including the GV70 SUV and G80 sedan.

The launch comes at a complicated moment for the broader American EV market. Electric vehicle demand has cooled over the past year, while federal incentives for EV purchases have been curtailed under the Trump administration. Previously, qualifying buyers could receive federal support of up to $7,500 toward an electric vehicle.

Two GV90 Variants Planned

Genesis will offer the flagship SUV in two primary configurations. The first is the GV90 Neolun, which adopts distinctive coach-style doors that open from the center of the vehicle. The second is the conventional GV90, which uses traditional front and rear doors.

A limited First Edition version will also be available. This premium specification will feature exclusive badging and a more opulent cabin treatment incorporating materials such as wool and cashmere.

The Neolun’s coach doors, sometimes referred to as suicide doors, remain an unusual feature in the modern automotive landscape. Their configuration can make entering and exiting a large SUV considerably easier, particularly for rear passengers, although integrating them into a crashworthy body structure presents substantial engineering challenges.

Genesis says it has addressed those hurdles without compromising occupant protection.

“Safety remains paramount in the GV90 Neolun despite the absence of a middle pillar,” the company said. Genesis developed a new structural architecture that integrates the doors with the body while maintaining stringent safety standards.

Up to 660 Horsepower and Around 310 Miles of Range

Underneath its imposing exterior, the GV90 employs a new high-output electric motor system designed for flagship-level performance.

Genesis says the powertrain can generate as much as 490 kilowatts, equivalent to approximately 660 horsepower, along with up to 800 Newton-meters of torque, or roughly 590 pound-feet.

That substantial output should give the large SUV the kind of acceleration and effortless overtaking ability expected from a premium electric flagship.

Genesis estimates that the GV90 will deliver an electric driving range of approximately 310 miles on a charge. Final EPA-certified figures for the U.S. market are expected closer to launch.

Beyond the mechanical specifications, the SUV’s visual identity is perhaps its most conspicuous departure from previous Genesis models. The exterior features a distinctive dual-light arrangement spanning the width of the vehicle, with the lighting elements converging toward the center.

The design language is not entirely new, however. Genesis first previewed the underlying aesthetic through the Neolun concept in 2024, offering an early glimpse at the brand’s interpretation of a full-size luxury electric SUV.

The production GV90 retains key elements of that concept while translating them into a road-going package.

Genesis Continues Its U.S. Growth

Genesis has been expanding its presence in the American market, and the GV90 arrives as the brand attempts to build further momentum.

Through the first six months of this year, Genesis reported U.S. sales of approximately 39,088 vehicles, representing growth of around 5% compared with the same period a year earlier.

The luxury division has now recorded 22 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth, according to Hyundai.

The GV90 could become an important catalyst for the brand as it moves into a higher-value segment of the luxury SUV market. Its combination of three-row practicality, electric propulsion, premium materials, distinctive styling and substantial performance gives Genesis a considerably larger canvas on which to compete.

The challenge, however, will be formidable. The full-size luxury EV category is becoming increasingly crowded, with established luxury manufacturers and EV-focused newcomers vying for affluent buyers.

Genesis is betting that the GV90’s unusual design, lavish interior appointments and technology-heavy character will help it carve out a distinct niche rather than simply imitate its rivals.

With its U.S. arrival scheduled for early next year, the GV90 is poised to become one of Genesis’ most consequential launches yet. It is not merely a larger SUV for the lineup; it is the clearest expression so far of where the Korean luxury brand wants to position itself in the rapidly evolving premium EV landscape.
