General Motors (GM) is recalling nearly 3,000 Chevy Equinox EV all-wheel-drive (AWD) models due to a glitch in the adaptive cruise control system. The automaker alerted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday, outlining the issue and its resolution.
What’s Causing the Recall?
A miscalibrated software setting in the Brake System Control Module (BSCM) is preventing the adaptive cruise control feature from engaging the brakes properly. As a result, affected vehicles may fail to slow down or stop as expected when the system is active.

This issue came to light in October when a GM engineer flagged a test vehicle that did not respond as intended. Following an internal investigation launched on November 8, GM determined that certain 2025 AWD models were programmed incorrectly.
Which Models Are Affected?
The recall applies only to 2025 Chevy Equinox EV AWD models that do not feature GM’s hands-free Super Cruise system. Both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and AWD versions equipped with Super Cruise remain unaffected.
GM dealers will provide a free software update to correct the problem. Owners should expect notification letters by March 3, 2025.

Recent Recall History & Chevy Equinox EV Sales
This isn’t the first recall for the 2025 Equinox EV. Just last month, GM recalled over 7,600 units due to an overly quiet pedestrian alert system.
Despite these hiccups, the Equinox EV remains a strong contender in the electric SUV market. In 2024, it ranked as the eighth best-selling EV in the U.S., with nearly 29,000 units sold. Now, with the affordable LT trim starting at just $34,995, GM hopes to maintain its momentum.
