A Tesla Cybertruck ended up underwater at Ventura Harbor last Sunday when a jet ski launch went terribly wrong. The stainless steel EV plunged into the water around 11 AM, giving local emergency crews quite the recovery challenge.
The driver managed to escape before the truck sank—thank goodness for small mercies.

Not Your Average Tow Job
Getting that Cybertruck back on dry land? Total nightmare. Divers discovered it wedged under the dock with its front wheels twisted awkwardly beneath the structure. It took a team effort: TowBoatUS Ventura coordinated with harbor patrol, Coast Guard, and local firefighters, eventually bringing in a second towboat when the first couldn’t handle the job alone.
Officials cordoned off the area—mixing saltwater with high-voltage batteries isn’t exactly a recipe for safety. Redline Towing handled the extraction while Tesla sent its own engineer to check out the waterlogged vehicle once it was back on land. Surprisingly, no fires or electrical drama ensued.
So Much for “It Floats.”
Remember when Elon claimed Cybertrucks could “float for a while”? Yeah, about that…
This real-world test suggests maybe—just maybe—your $80,000 electric truck isn’t meant to double as a boat. Shocking, I know.

The Internet Had a Field Day
As you’d expect, social media didn’t disappoint:
“People drop big money on expensive toys but skip the ‘how to use them’ part. Launch ramp lessons, anyone?”
“Who needs a trailer when you’ve got a Cybertruck? Oh wait…”
“Looks like footage from a low-budget sci-fi flick: ‘Das Boot: Electric Boogaloo'”
“So our tax dollars rescued that thing? Shouldn’t Tesla Boy be covering this bill?”
