BYD has gone from being a new company to a major player in the UK EV market in just 29 months, and it’s not slowing down.
In less than two and a half years since its first store opened in April 2023, Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has officially reached a significant milestone: it now has 100 franchised dealerships across the UK. BYD’s growth has been so fast that it is now one of the fastest-growing car brands in the UK in recent memory.
BYD’s growing presence means that the average person in the UK is now only 27 minutes away from a dealership. This is because new showrooms are now open in important cities like Canterbury, Chichester, Croydon, Ipswich, and St. Albans. Strategic partnerships with big AM100 dealer groups like Hartwell, Glyn Hopkin, and the John Clark Motor Group have helped the brand quickly open new dealerships.
A Milestone Made Possible by Partnerships and Popular Models
Steve Beattie, the Sales and Network Director at BYD UK, was happy about the success and said:
“Getting to 100 locations in just 29 months shows how much support BYD has in the UK.” This success is mainly due to our dealer partners, and it shows how strong our cars and the technology inside them are.
The Super Hybrid DM-i models, like the Sealion 7 SUV, and the fully electric vehicles, like the award-winning Dolphin and Surf, are two of the most popular options in BYD’s growing lineup. People are talking about their design, technology, and value.
BYD Starts a Certified Pre-Owned Program That Goes Beyond New
BYD isn’t just looking at people who want to buy new cars; it’s also making big moves in the used EV market. The company has said that its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program will start in the UK next month. This will give customers more reliable and flexible choices when they buy a BYD.
The program will have:
- An inspection with 179 points.
- A vehicle warranty of at least one year or 20,000 km.
- The rest of the 8-year/200,000 km battery warranty.
- Two years of 24/7 roadside help across all of Europe.
- Two years of data access in the car.
This move shows that BYD is committed to long-term value and reliability, mainly since people are still getting used to buying used EVs. The extra coverage and openness could make BYD’s used cars a top choice for people who want peace of mind without having to pay the full price for a new car.
A Growing Danger to Old and New Electric Vehicle Giants
BYD’s success in the UK is excellent, but it is also happening all over Europe. ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association) says that in August 2025, BYD sold three times as many new cars in the EU as it did in the same month in 2024. This was the second month in a row that BYD sold more cars than Tesla. The brand’s plan to sell cheap, high-tech electric vehicles and open a lot of new dealerships is clearly working.
Last Thoughts
In less than 30 months, BYD has done a lot. The brand is no longer just “one to watch.” It has 100 showrooms, a big Certified Pre-Owned program, and sales in Europe are going up. It’s already a significant force changing how electric vehicles are bought, sold, and serviced in the UK and beyond.
The electric vehicle revolution isn’t coming; it’s already here, and BYD is in the lead.
