Ultraviolette X47 Crossover Launched in India at ₹2.49 lakh

Bengaluru-based Ultraviolette is shaking up India’s electric motorcycle landscape with the launch of its feature-packed X47 Crossover, signalling a broader industry shift toward high-performance EVs.

In a market long dominated by the visceral growl of petrol-powered bikes, the arrival of the Ultraviolette X47 marks a sharp pivot—where silence, speed, and tech take the lead. Priced at ₹2.74 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru), with an introductory tag of ₹2.49 lakh for the first 1,000 buyers, the X47 isn’t just another electric two-wheeler—it’s a bold statement in the premium adventure segment.

From Rumble to Radar

While the Indian motorcycle market still leans heavily on internal combustion engines—accounting for 65% of 18.81 million two-wheeler sales in FY25—Ultraviolette is betting on next-gen innovation to win over traditional bikers.

Ultraviolette X47 Crossover features

The X47 stands apart, boasting UV Hypersense Radar, a segment-first feature that offers blind spot monitoring, overtaking alerts, lane change assist, and rear collision warnings. Add dual dashcams, an optional dual-screen cockpit, and aviation-grade design DNA, and you’ve got a machine that looks—and feels—light-years ahead.

“We’re not just building electric bikes,” says Ultraviolette CEO Narayan Subramaniam. “We’re reimagining what performance on two wheels means in an electric world.”

Built for the Brave

Inspired by the ruggedness of adventure tourers and the agility of naked street fighters, the X47 features an all-new chassis and subframe architecture. Its aggressive beak, aerodynamic tank design, and sharp tail section rest on a cast-aluminium subframe.

The bike is available in Laser Red, Shadow Black, Airstrike White, and a limited-edition Desert Wing variant, which includes saddle stays, luggage racks, and touring panniers as standard—ready for long hauls, right out of the box.

On the performance front, the X47 delivers 40 bhp and a thrilling 100 Nm of torque, catapulting from 0 to 60 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 145 km/h.

Two Battery Options, One Electric Soul

Ultraviolette offers two battery choices:

  • 7.1 kWh pack – 211 km IDC range
  • 10.3 kWh pack – 323 km IDC range

Both come equipped with an integrated onboard charger and support regenerative braking with nine customizable levels, ensuring that performance doesn’t come at the cost of practicality.

India’s Electric Motorcycle Market: A Slow Burn

Despite breakthroughs like the X47 and Ola’s Roadster X, the electric motorcycle segment in India is still in its infancy. Just 1% of electric two-wheeler sales in FY25 were motorcycles. Scooters dominate the EV conversation, thanks to their affordability and urban appeal.

Why the slow adoption? High prices, thermal challenges in powerful batteries, and sensitivities in rural markets. Most ICE motorcycles sold in India fall under ₹80,000—far from the premium tags of most e-bikes.

Yet startups like Ultraviolette, Ola Electric, Matter Motors, and Raptee Energy are turning the tide with high-voltage platforms, better thermal management, and faster-charging tech.

More Than Subsidies: A Shift in Mindset

Government efforts, including recent initiatives by NITI Aayog, aim to accelerate e-motorcycle production before subsidies expire in March 2026. But as Ather Energy CEO Tarun Mehta notes, “It’s not about subsidies. Something else is missing.”

That “something” may be a combination of affordability, infrastructure, and emotional resonance. After all, motorcycles in India aren’t just a means of transport—they’re an identity.

Still, optimism is in the air. As CTO Niraj Rajmohan of Ultraviolette says, “There weren’t many real options before. That’s changing fast.”

Bookings Open, Deliveries Soon

Bookings for the Ultraviolette X47 are live, and deliveries are set to begin in October 2025. With its aggressive pricing, top-tier tech, and adventure-ready design, the X47 could be the spark that finally pushes electric motorcycles from niche to norm.

Why This Matters:

As India accelerates toward a greener future, the Ultraviolette X47 signals a defining moment—not just for the company, but for an entire industry on the brink of transformation.
