Got a Rivian and love the outdoors? iKamper just released something you might want to check out—a rooftop tent explicitly built for the R1T truck and R1S SUV. Their new Skycamp Mini handles rough weather while giving you a comfy place to crash after a day of adventure. You can grab one now through the Rivian Gear Shop if you’re looking to upgrade your camping setup.
A Partnership That Makes Sense
iKamper’s been crafting outdoor gear since 2012, and they’ve built quite a following among serious campers. Given Rivian’s whole “get out there and explore” vibe—they even have their own network of chargers in remote spots—these two brands fit together naturally.

Rivian already sells plenty of outdoor stuff—portable kitchens, field kits, surfboard racks, you name it. When they first launched their vehicles, they offered a Yakima tent for about $2,800. Now iKamper steps in with a fancier option that’s sleeker and tougher. Yeah, it costs more, but for die-hard outdoor enthusiasts, the extra features might be worth it.
What’s Special About This Version?
According to details shared with AboutEVs, this isn’t just any Skycamp Mini. The Rivian version comes with:
- Colors that match Rivian’s style
- All-black hardware for a more rigid look
- Custom mounting brackets made just for Rivian vehicles

The streamlined hard shell cuts down on wind resistance (good news for your battery range) while looking like it belongs on your Rivian. It includes iKamper’s premium self-inflating mattress, too, so you’ll sleep well whether it’s freezing or blazing hot outside.
For the environmentally minded, the tent is PFAS-free, which fits with Rivian’s eco-friendly approach.
Easy to Set Up, Ready for Rough Terrain
From what I can see in the photos, the mounting brackets work with Rivian’s Adventure Key Set. You can put the hard-shell tent on either the truck bed or roof using Rivian’s crossbars (which you’ll need to buy separately).
Once it’s mounted, you won’t waste time with a complicated setup. Just pop it open, and you’re good to go. The sturdy mounting keeps everything secure, even on bumpy trails.

Inside, you’ll find:
- A thick 4-inch mattress that inflates itself
- Room for one or two people
- Tough fabric that keeps rain out
- Wind protection up to 35 mph
As Kaila Vandermey from Rivian put it: “Rivian vehicles are built to empower exploration. Partnering with iKamper on the Rivian x iKamper Skycamp Mini is the perfect way to enhance that adventurous spirit. Wherever your journey leads, this rooftop tent ensures you can rest under the stars in comfort.”
What’ll It Cost Me?
You’ll find the tent featured on Rivian’s site, but you’ll actually buy it through iKamper’s website for $4,595. That’s a chunk of change, for sure. But if camping is your thing and you want gear that lasts, it might be money well spent.
Oh, and here’s a nice touch—if you pre-order, iKamper will throw in their Disco Series Stove for free. It’s a limited-time deal, so it’s worth considering if you were planning to buy anyway.
Bottom Line
If you live for weekend adventures and want something that’s perfectly matched to your Rivian, this tent makes sense. It’s built to last and designed specifically for your vehicle. If you only camp once in a blue moon, though, the cheaper Yakima option might do just fine.
What do you think? Would you shell out for this premium tent or stick with something more fundamental?
