Lucid Earth & Gravity Touring: Affordable EVs by 2027

Lucid Motors, long known for its luxury electric sedans, is making a dramatic shift—one that could redefine its place in the EV industry. After years of catering to the high-end market, the American EV maker is now charging toward affordability and scale, with a new wave of midsize electric vehicles on the horizon and its more budget-friendly Gravity Touring SUV leading the charge.

And this is only the beginning.

The Tipping Point: Gravity Touring Launches Later This Year

Lucid is sticking to its roadmap despite some speed bumps. The Gravity Touring, a more accessible trim of the luxury Gravity SUV, is slated to arrive in late 2025. With a starting price of $81,550, it undercuts the existing Grand Touring version by over $13,000, making Lucid’s sleek seven-seater SUV a real contender for families and tech enthusiasts who found the original price tag out of reach.

CEO Marc Winterhoff recently confirmed that Lucid now has all necessary components—including rare earth magnets and key materials—to resume a smooth production run through the rest of 2025. The Touring variant will not only bolster domestic sales but is also headed to Europe, where it’ll start from €99,900 (roughly $117,000 USD). Deliveries across the Atlantic are expected to begin in early 2026.

Next Stop: Project ‘Earth’ – Lucid’s $50K Gamechanger

While Gravity brings premium electric utility to more driveways, the real disruption is brewing under a code name: Lucid Earth.

Although not officially announced, “Earth” is the name industry insiders are whispering, and it’s already been quietly trademarked. This midsize EV lineup, expected to debut by 2027, represents Lucid’s most ambitious bet yet—vehicles that are smarter, leaner, and dramatically cheaper to build, all while competing with Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y.

Lucid’s internal goal? Launch with a base price near $50,000, and still turn a profit.

That’s no pipe dream, according to Winterhoff. “We’re deep into sourcing for the bill of materials,” he said during a press session at the 2025 Munich IAA Auto Show. “Our costs are nearly half of what competitors are paying. Earth is a different dimension.”

Three Models, One Vision – Designed for Scale and Autonomy

The Earth project isn’t just about consumer EVs—it’s also being prepped for the autonomous future.

Lucid has confirmed three configurations (or “top hats”) built on the new midsize platform. One is a standard SUV, another is a rugged off-road version inspired by the Gravity X Concept, and the third—still under wraps—is rumored to be a sleek sedan. One of these models will even form the basis of Lucid’s upcoming Uber autonomous taxi fleet.

The vehicles are being designed with radical simplicity in mind. Fewer parts than even the Tesla Model Y. Better aerodynamics. Lighter construction. And the introduction of the 335-hp Atlas motor, a new powertrain engineered for maximum efficiency on a smaller battery footprint.

This isn’t just about range—it’s about cost-effective range.

Where It’s All Being Built: A Global Footprint

Lucid’s expanding manufacturing footprint will be key to its success. Production for the Earth lineup will take place in Casa Grande, Arizona, as well as at the company’s Saudi Arabian facility, which Winterhoff says is slightly ahead of schedule—a rare win in a world of factory delays.

While the Saudi plant currently assembles CKD kits for the Lucid Air and Gravity, the Earth vehicles will be built entirely on-site, marking a pivotal shift in the company’s global strategy.

The Road Ahead: Can Lucid Deliver?

Lucid isn’t just dreaming anymore—it’s executing. With the Gravity Touring poised to broaden its customer base and the Earth project targeting the heart of the mainstream EV market, Lucid seems to be aligning its vision, product, and pricing strategy in a way that could finally unlock mass adoption.

And while production delays and funding requirements still loom, the company appears financially stable through mid-2026, just in time to ramp up Earth development.

The EV market is crowded. Tesla continues to dominate. Legacy automakers are accelerating. But if Lucid sticks to its plan, 2027 could be the year it no longer plays catch-up—but leads the charge.
